Mark Varney of Electro
Analytical Technology specialises in the design and prototyping
of marine instrumentation for underwater monitoring of chemical
species, such as dissolved oxygen, pH, redox, trace metals, and
nutrients.
TDS
products are used for instrumentation and datalogging
A number of portable instruments for routine monitoring of important
water quality parameters have been constructed. Such 'suites' of
measurements are conveniently housed within one instrument, making
for quick and easy deployment. The data is either held within the
instrument package, or sent in real time up the cable to a topside
data logger.
A carousel
of water samplers is lowered over the side of a research ship for
a hydrographic 'cast'. On the bottom of the frame continuous recording
instruments measure a variety of water parameters as the carousel
is lowered down the water column. Operators then 'fire' individual
water samplers on the way back up, having seen the 'profiles' and
decided at which depths the water samples should be taken.
