Martech Systems Ltd produce a magnetic
field generator
Martech Systems Ltd use TDS products in
this control unit for an AC Magnetic Field Generator. |
|
|
The AC magnetic field generator
comprises three large wound coils (3m x 2m) housed in a fully-enclosed
fibreglass hull. The coils are positioned orthogonally in
order to produce magnetic fields in the x, y and z planes.
The coil body is linked to a towing vessel via an umbilical
cable for communication and control. The electronic system,
designed and manufactured by Martech, provides three main
functions: coil body control, data logging, and roll and
pitch compensation. The main unit, situated within the coil
body, utilises a TDS2020 to interact with a remote PC via
an RS485 serial communications link. The remote PC provides
a user interface to control and monitor the coil body functions,
such as coil voltage and current, in conjunction with the
TDS2020. |
Various parameters are monitored
within the coil body, such as temperature, humidity, coil
current, magnetic field strength and flood warning, which
are fed to the TDS2020 and logged to an onboard hard disk
for later analysis. A data string, containing the same information,
is also sent to the remote PC for display and secondary backup.
A second TDS2020 is used within the body for roll and pitch
compensation. The microcontroller compares the set coil voltages
with roll and pitch data to calculate adjustments in coil
voltage to keep the fields in each axis constant. This information
is transmitted via radio modem to a notepad PC on the towing
vessel where it is displayed graphically and logged to disk. |
