If you're about to use a TDS2020F computer
for the first time, a Starter Pack is the best place to begin.
They contain most of the things you need for your application development. |

TDS2020F-SP
Starter Pack. Point to each item on the picture for part numbers
and information

TDS2020F Starter Pack
There are two versions of the Starter Pack:
l TDS2020F-SP is based on the TDS2020F computer
l TDS2020F-PLUG-SP uses the TDS2020F-PLUG
which fits in a rack
Suggested first order
These Starter Packs contain almost everything to start work on
a prototype.
l TDS2020F card computer with
Forth in the microprocessor (or TDS2020F-PLUG)
l RAM32K RAM for holding program during
development
l EEPROM32K Flash-EEPROM for compilation
in the latter stages
l PINSOCKETSET (TDS2020F-SP)
or SOCKETDIN64 (TDS2020F-PLUG-SP) sockets for
the prototype development
l TDS2020TM Technical
Manual (444 pages)
l TDS2020HM microprocessor
Hardware Manual (on CD)
l TDS-PC for Windows CD with development system, software library, website
and other useful material |

What you need
As well as a Starter Pack you'll need a
PC with a minimum specification.
You will also need a cable to connect your TDS2020F computer
to a serial port on the PC. This can be a simple 3-wire cable for
communication with the TDS2020F (see Technical Manual
for Fast Start Guide).
Optional extras
You may want to add further items to your Starter Pack, here
are some suggestions:
l UPDATE-SERVICE brings
a yearly subscription for all that's new, an extended library
and the pre-emptive multitasker
l ANS-HANDBOOK is
a strongly recommended book if you are new to the Forth language
l TDS2020EX is
an extraction tool for safely removing the H8/532 from its
socket (useful for other PLCC chips too)
l 27C256 is
a 32k byte dual-in-line EPROM |

Datalogging
Starter Pack
For datalogging applications, in addition to the TDS2020F-SP you
need to order a data buffer RAM and adapters to log to a PCMCIA
or Compact Flash card.
If your data is less than 512k bytes you can alternatively use
a 28SF040 512k byte Flash chip to hold the collected data.
See below if you are collecting more than half a megabyte. |
| |
The picture (left)
shows an example datalogging Starter Pack.
|
For PCMCIA or Compact Flash applications
you need to order these items:
l TDS2020F-SP Starter
Pack, see above for contents.
l Select
one of these:
—TDS2020CM2 PCMCIA adapter (standard part, right-handed
ejector)
—TDS2020CM2LH PCMCIA adapter (left-handed ejector)
—TDS2020CM2NE PCMCIA adapter (no ejector mechanism).
This is the usual choice when using Compact Flash and the TDS2020CFA
converter.
l RAM512K or RAM128K to act as cache memory in the 32-pin socket. The larger RAM gives
best performance because the time between disk use is greater.
l An
appropriate Flash or hard disk card. Order codes are as follows,
the xxx indicates the size:
—CMxxxMFLASHATA for PCMCIA-ATA Flash cards
—CFxxxM for Compact Flash as used in some digital
cameras
—HDxxxM or HDxxxG for PCMCIA hard disks
l TDS2020CFA Compact
Flash converter if using CF cards
l CF-PCA adapter
to read Compact Flash cards in a notebook PC or PC attachment. |

CAN network Starter Pack
Apart from the TDS2020F-SP you need to add a TDS2020CAN-PIN CAN-bus adapter. This will give you one node.
l for
each extra node order one TDS2020F (or TDS9092)
and one TDS2020CAN-PIN.
l to
interconnect nodes order CANCABLExxM where xx is the
length in metres
l to
connect the CAN network to a PC choose one of these:
—PC-1CAN-INT PC internal ISA bus CAN card
—PC-CAN-PAR PC printer port to CAN |

GPS
Starter Pack
For GPS (Global Positioning by Satellite) applications just order TDS2020GDL. This
comprises:
l TDS2020F-SP as
listed above
l TDS2020CM2 PCMCIA
adapter
l TDS2020CFA Compact
Flash converter
l RAM512K 512k
byte buffer chip
l GPS-SAPPHIRE GPS
receiver, with voltage regulator IC and connection diagram
You should also order a PCMCIA or Compact Flash card of the appropriate
capacity for your data collection. They are available from 32MB
to 1GB, see price list. |
