Put a LAN or the Internet between the PC and your TDS2020F

Compile TDS2020F source code over your LAN or the Internet, or use the Ethernet connection to upload data from a TDS2020F-based instrument, machine or datalogger.

The TDS-PC for Windows development software for TDS2020F and TDS9092 on your PC will not be aware that the computer card is not nearby. For example, you might be in the office but the TDS2020F could be embedded in an engine down on the shop-floor. Because TDS2020F compiles into a Flash chip, no physical access is needed and much development can be done remotely.

The stock code ETHERNET-SERIAL is a Vlinx model ESP901 Ethernet serial server connecting RS-232, 422, 485 serial devices to an Ethernet LAN/WAN, providing a reliable communication connection. Existing Windows based serial software using standard Windows API does not have to be modified to communicate over an Ethernet LAN to a serial device. The Vlinx virtual COM port will make this an easy transition.

It operates in “Direct IP Mode”, “Virtual COM Mode”, and “Paired Mode”. The ESP901 has one asynchronous DB-9 serial port and one 10/100 Mbps Ethernet RJ-45 connection. The Ethernet port will auto-select 10BaseT or 100BaseTX.

The Windows driver supplied installs a virtual COM port in the Device Manager of the operating system. The virtual COM port is designed to establish a connection with the ethernet-to-serial adapter. This in turn will allow communications with the connected serial device in the same manner as a device connected to the COM port on a PC. The LAN becomes transparent to the serial device and the software running on the PC.

The unit can be configured as a TCP or UDP and as Client or Server. In direct IP and virtual COM modes it should be configured as a server. It also offers a Heart Beat feature to insure a reliable communications connection.
