SC28C94 Quad universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (QUART)
The Philips SC28C94 QUART integrated circuit
comes in a 48-pin DIL package with 0.1 inch pin-spacing and
0.6 inch row-spacing. It combines four enhanced industry-standard
UARTs and the operating speed of each receiver and transmitter
can be selected independently at baud rates from 50 to 230,400.
Each receiver is buffered with eight character FIFOs (first-in-first-out
memories). In addition, a handshaking capability can disable
a remote UART transmitter when the receiver buffer is full
(RTS control). The QUART is TTL compatible and operates from
a single +5V power supply.
The library file #quart.tds provides four
extra serial ports to a TDS2020F in addition to
the two already present. A circuit
diagram is available. The ports can be RS232, RS485 or
RS422 depending on which driver chips are added. Full CTS
and RTS hardware handshaking is available. Data is received
into a circular buffer that is user defined, nominally 82
bytes. All four receivers and transmitters can be used simultaneously
in real-time applications. Baud rates from 50 to 38,400 are
available (higher by modifying the file). Interactive Forth
can be redirected to any port and that can be used for further
compilation if required.
